Global hydroelectric dam reservoir capacity

WaterRenewable Energy

This quantity is a single measurement of the quantity at a given point in time (2013-2017).

Value:

This is equivalent to...

≈ 5.4 × 1018 L

≈ 5.4 × 106 km3

HuID: 94828
Relevant Year(s): 2013-2017
Summary: Value comes from the FAO global geo-referenced dam database and represents the sum of reservoir capacities of all dams specified as used for the generation of hydroelectricity.
Method: FAO acquires information on dams by self reporting by countries on dam location, height, use, reservoir capacity, and reservoir area. We only used dams specified as used for hydroelectricity. They do not provide a statement on uncertainty, however, there are some missing values for reservoir capacity in their data.
