Summary: Feed-to-edible protein conversion efficiency of Nile tilapia, defined as the ratio of edible protein mass to the mass of protein in the feed used to grow tilapia for food. This definition does not account for inefficiencies due to waste of edible material in the food chain, and is generally larger than the feed-to-food conversion efficiency.
Method: Values are computed from estimated inputs fed directly to food-producing animals to produce a unit of edible mass. This estimate does not consider the effect of early mortality, feeding breeding animals or waste in the calculation. Therefore, the values presented here should be viewed as an overestimate of the actual efficiency. No uncertainty is given by the authors.
