Estimate of oceanic zooplankton biomass

Flora & FaunaOceans & Seas

This quantity is a single measurement of the quantity at a given point in time (2021).

Value:

This is equivalent to...

≈ 3 - 150 Pg

HuID: 85142
Relevant Year(s): 2021
Summary: This value is an estimate of total global oceanic biomass of zooplankton, including nano-, micro-, meso-, and macrozooplankton. Sample measurements along with satellite data were used to estimate this value.
Method: Total zooplankton biomass was estimated from sample measurements as well as modeled conversions between chlorophyll and zooplankton, and accounting for environmental variables. The uncertainty reported is a 95% confidence interval derived from the geometric mean of: 1) the standard error of the mean from 1000 bootstrap samples, 2) the confidence intervals from the sampling measurements.
