Upper ocean temperature change

WaterOceans & Seas

This quantity comes from a time series measurement and the most recent value (2019) is reported.

Value:

This is equivalent to...

0.37 ± 0.03 °F

HuID: 72086
Relevant Year(s): 2019
Summary: Temperature increase of the upper 700 m of the ocean relative to the average temperature during reference years 1958-1962.
Method: Values are processed from the source by subtracting the reported 1958-1962 average temperature, making the 1958-1962 period the reference. The original estimates are based on historical data, additional modern data, bathythermograph data corrected for instrumental biases and Argo data.

The uncertainty reported is the 95% confidence interval of the temperature change with respect to the reference temperature (average temperature during pentadal period 1958-1962) rounded to one significant figure. Uncertainty is obtained from the summary statistics provided in the original source, assuming worst-case scenario for correlation among variables.
