Passenger air transport energy consumption

EnergyFossil Fuels

This quantity comes from a time series measurement and the most recent value (2020) is reported.

Value:

This is equivalent to...

≈ 2.1 × 1011 W

≈ 0.21 TW

HuID: 55062
Relevant Year(s): 2020
Summary: Global energy consumption from all passenger transport by air. Passenger air transport represents about 1% of global energy consumption for all purposes, and about 10% fo total passenger transport energy consumption. Data are from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The value reported for 2020 is lower than for any other year since 2010, due to a global reduction in passenger travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.Typical pre-pandemic values were about 100% larger.
Method: Data are provided as part of the Annual International Energy Outlook of the U.S. Energy Information Administration. No measure of uncertainty is reported, so the values presented should be considered to be rough estimates of the real magnitude.
