Feed-to-edible protein conversion efficiency of chicken

Flora & FaunaAgriculture

This quantity comes from a time series measurement and the most recent value (2018) is reported.

Value:

This is equivalent to...

≈ 0.34 g protein / g protein feed

HuID: 13706
Relevant Year(s): 2018
Summary: Feed-to-edible protein conversion efficiency of chicken, defined as the ratio of edible protein mass to the mass of protein in the feed used to grow chicken for meat. This definition does not account for inefficiencies due to waste of edible material in the food chain, and is generally larger than the feed-to-food conversion efficiency.
Method: Values are computed from estimated inputs fed directly to food-producing animals to produce a unit of edible mass. This estimate does not consider the effect of early mortality, feeding breeding animals or waste in the calculation. Therefore, the values presented here should be viewed as an overestimate of the actual efficiency. No uncertainty is given by the authors. The value given is from the Corrigendum of the article, due to inaccuracies in the calculation of the original article for terrestrial livestock.
